On August 16th Mary Schrag, a member of the Missouri State Board of Education, visited the Eminence R-I Campus. Mrs. Schrag delivered remarks related to recent developments for the State Board of Education and Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education pertaining to public education. Mary has also been instrumental in her efforts with the Blue-Ribbon Commission on Teacher Recruitment and Retention.
After her remarks, the Eminence High Band performed, and then Mary toured the Little Redwings Daycare located on the Eminence R-I Campus. It was a great honor and privilege to be able to showcase some of our unique and high-quality local programs for a member of the State Board of Education.

Did you know over 70% of a school day demands good visual skills for effective and efficient learning? However, when asked, almost half of students report at least one learning difficulty related to visual issues. Alexandra Spichtig, Ph.D., and her Stanford Taylor Foundation team, will conduct free student screenings and make results available to the Eminence R-1 School District. Superintendent Dr. Allen says, "This is a very select and special opportunity for out students and community as the Standford Taylor Foundation is a nationally recognized leader in the field of visual and perceptual skill development related to reading and learning." Additional information will be send home with students related to his process soon.

With 338 entries from 32 states, Bonnee Clutcher takes Third (with "The Social Butterfly") and Ashton Alley-Cutts takes Honorable Mention (with "Martha") in the National Quilt Museum's School Block Challenge. Congrats to our talented Redwing students and FACS Instructor Mrs. Adams.

Who helps students better understand their own strengths? Who works with parents to help overcome obstacles raising their children? Who helps students face various life challenges? Who works with teachers to help facilitate best student learning situations? Who does so many behind the scenes tasks no one ever sees to help the school system run smoothly? Those people are called school counselors and we are lucky at Eminence R-1 to have these two women advocating for our team. Thank you Julie Voyles (HS Counselor) and Bridget Liggett (EL Counselor) for all you do. And, happy National School Counselor Week.
